Suzuki Jimny Rustproofing: Protecting a 2024 Import with Dinitrol
A clean Suzuki Jimny underside is the ideal starting point for rustproo
fing. Protecting the chassis, exposed steelwork and internal cavities before significant corrosion develops helps preserve the vehicle’s original condition.
In this workshop video, we follow a 2024 Suzuki Jimny import with 20,000 miles through a complete Dinitrol rustproofing treatment at Rustec. From the initial inspection to underbody protection and cavity wax application, the process demonstrates why early corrosion prevention matters.
If you own a new or recently imported Jimny, this breakdown explains what professional rustproofing involves and why preparation is just as important as the protective coating.

Why rustproof a clean Suzuki Jimny?
Rustproofing is often associated with older vehicles that already have visible corrosion. However, a vehicle in excellent condition offers a valuable opportunity to protect clean steel before deterioration takes hold.
This imported Jimny arrived with its factory coatings largely intact and only minor surface weathering on a handful of exposed components. It had not experienced years of UK road salt and wet-weather exposure.
Once a vehicle enters regular UK use, its underside faces moisture, road spray, grit and winter salt. For owners planning to keep their Jimny long term, early underbody and cavity protection can form an important part of preventative maintenance.
1. Inspecting the chassis and underbody
The treatment begins with the Jimny on the lift, allowing us to assess its condition underneath.
The inspection covers the front and rear suspension, chassis rails, central floor sections and sill areas. On this vehicle, these remained exceptionally clean, with no heavy corrosion scale or structural deterioration identified.
That condition determines the preparation needed. This Jimny requires a treatment focused on preserving its existing steelwork, rather than extensive removal of established corrosion.
2. Preparing and cleaning the underside
Even a clean vehicle needs preparation before protective products are applied.
The aim is to create a suitable surface for treatment, addressing any minor corrosion and removing contamination. Following preparation, the underside receives a thorough wash to clear away dust, residue and workshop debris.
We work around the front suspension and chassis, along the centre of the vehicle and towards the rear. The important point is that a clean appearance alone does not mean the vehicle is ready for coating.
3. Drying seams and hidden areas
Drying is one of the less visible stages of Suzuki Jimny rustproofing, but it deserves careful attention.
Moisture can remain inside seams, overlaps, mounting points and enclosed sections after exposed surfaces appear dry. In the video, compressed air and controlled drying procedures help remove moisture before treatment continues.
Taking time over this stage provides a better foundation for the corrosion protection that follows.
4. Masking components and keeping drains clear
Professional undersealing requires selective application.
Before spraying, we protect brake components, electrical connections, identification labels, exhaust sections and other areas that need to remain clean or accessible.
Drainage points also need attention. These allow moisture to escape from enclosed sections, so they must remain open throughout the treatment.
Effective rustproofing protects vulnerable steelwork while respecting the vehicle’s drainage and servicing requirements.
5. Treating minor corrosion with Dinitrol RC 900
Although this Jimny is in excellent condition, isolated areas show early oxidation.
Dinitrol RC 900 is used where appropriate to address residual corrosion following preparation, including areas around seams, welds and exposed steelwork.
A rust converter supports the preparation process; it does not replace it. Removing unstable corrosion and assessing the underlying metal remain essential before protection is applied.
6. Applying Dinitrol 4941 underbody protection
With preparation, cleaning, drying and masking complete, we apply Dinitrol 4941 underbody protection.
This creates the visible protective coating across appropriate exposed areas, including floor sections, chassis components, wheel arches, brackets and suspension mounting points.
Application focuses on even, controlled coverage. Simply adding a thicker coating is not the objective: preparation, coverage and suitable application all contribute to the finished treatment.
Throughout this stage, drainage points remain clear and serviceable components remain accessible.
7. Protecting internal cavities with Dinitrol ML
The visible underside is only part of the vehicle’s corrosion protection needs.
Moisture can also enter chassis rails, crossmembers, box sections and other enclosed areas. Corrosion inside these sections can be difficult to spot and difficult to access once established.
For this Jimny, we apply Dinitrol ML cavity protection to suitable internal sections. Its penetrating and creeping action helps it reach seams, overlaps and areas that are difficult to coat directly.
Combining external underbody protection with internal cavity treatment provides a more comprehensive approach than focusing solely on the visible underside.
8. Final checks and reassembly
After application, the masking materials are removed and the treatment is inspected.
We check coverage, confirm that drainage points remain clear and address any small areas needing further attention. Liners, covers, guards and other removed components are then refitted, followed by final checks.
The result is a Jimny with protection applied to both exposed steelwork and appropriate hidden cavities while its original underside remains in excellent condition.
Suzuki Jimny rustproofing: common questions
Should I rustproof a new or recently imported Jimny?
A clean vehicle is a good candidate for preventative treatment. An inspection establishes its actual condition and helps determine the preparation and protection required. Being newly imported does not remove the need to inspect it.
Is undersealing the same as a complete rustproofing treatment?
Undersealing usually refers to protection applied to the visible underside. The treatment shown here also includes inspection, preparation, drying, selective corrosion treatment and internal cavity protection.
Which Dinitrol products are used in this video?
This Jimny receives Dinitrol RC 900 where needed for minor corrosion, Dinitrol 4941 for external underbody protection and Dinitrol ML for internal cavities.
Does rustproofing need ongoing maintenance?
Protection should be inspected and maintained over time. Regular checks help identify wear, damage or areas needing attention, particularly on vehicles exposed to winter roads or off-road use.
